Intel’s Sawtooth a ‘Poetic Consensus Environment’

Intel’s Sawtooth a ‘Poetic Consensus Environment’

The multinational tech corporation Intel, the largest semiconductor chip manufacturer, is currently keen on blockchain technology. The Santa Clara, California-based company, announced its latest initiative called “Sawtooth Lake” this April alongside a Hyperledger technical discussion meeting. The firm intends to use the platform for building, launching, and operating distributed ledger environments. Intel says that this particular protocol provides an immutable digital record of asset ownership “without a central authority.” Is Intel’s Sawtooth Cutting Edge Technology? Since being founded....

Hyperledger Eyes Mobile Blockchain Apps With 'Iroha' Project

A blockchain project developed by several Japanese firms including by startup Soramitsu and IT giant Hitachi has been accepted into the Hyperledger blockchain initiative. Developed by Hyperledger member and blockchain startup Soramitsu, Iroha was first unveiled during a meeting of the project’s Technical Steering Committee last month. Iroha is being pitched as both a supplement to other Hyperledger-tied infrastructure projects like IBM’s Fabric (on which it is based) and Intel’s Sawtooth Lake. At the same time, Soramitsu is positioning Iroha as a means to encourage the development of....

Third Blockchain Project Joins Hyperledger Incubator

A blockchain platform called Iroha, created by members of the Japanese startup Soramitsu, has recently joined the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger project for incubation. Iroha is the third project to receive incubation status, joining IBM’s Fabric project and Intel’s Sawtooth Lake. Iroha Becomes the Third Hyperledger Incubation Project. Members of a few....

Intel Unveils 'Sawtooth Lake' Proposal at Hyperledger Meeting

Tech giant Intel has unveiled a new experimental distributed ledger platform dubbed "Sawtooth Lake". Code for proposed contribution to the open-source Hyperledger blockchain project was posted to GitHub today, along with an in-depth informational release that outlines the major planks of the initiative and offers a tutorial for implementing the code. The code was presented at today's Hyperledger technical steering committee meeting. Intel described Sawtooth Lake as "a highly modular platform for building, deploying and running distributed ledgers". According to the....

The Blockchain Milestone You May Have Missed

Amidst the fanfare of the release of R3's Corda distributed ledger code, another milestone slipped by almost unnoticed – Hyperledger surpassed 100 members. On its own, the news isn't that important – 100 is, after all, just a number. But combine the two reports, and you unearth a development that could define the future of blockchain. Hyperledger was created a year ago as a unifying "umbrella" for enterprise blockchain open-source development. Among the participants are blockchain companies (including R3), financial institutions and tech giants. Its approach so far has been a mix....

R3, 8 Member Banks Test Intel Blockchain Prototype

A group of 8 banks from the R3 blockchain consortium have successfully tested a blockchain prototype developed by Intel by simulating bond transactions. Picking US treasury bonds as the instrument, New York-based private blockchain startup R3 and eight of its member banks from its larger consortium put to test a technology developed by Intel, called ‘Sawtooth Lake.’ The prototype was an implementation of said technology, which is Intel’s proprietary blockchain platform. The simulation took place on a ledger supported by physical nodes that were non-cloud-based, as specified by R3. The....
