Inside Hyperledger's High-Stakes Game of Blockchain Marbles

A group of global financial institutions and blockchain startups gathered online last week to play a friendly game of marbles. But instead of using a virtual shooter marble to knock the competition out of a circle of chalk, the marbles were created using an early version of Hyperledger’s Fabric blockchain platform. The dozen participants included the London Stock Exchange Group, IBM, Skuchain, Everledger and Loyyal, along with a number of other firms which asked that their identities not be disclosed. Once the digital assets were distributed, participants walked through the process of....

Hyperledger Tests Open Strategy With First Blockchain Explorer

Business blockchain consortium Hyperledger is now building an open-source tool that will let anyone explore the distributed ledger projects being created by its members. Originally conceived by an intern at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the proposal to create a blockchain explorer gained steam last month when it was informally proposed to members. It was then that other prominent contributors to the Linux-led group discovered they all had similar efforts underway. But instead of launching competing open-source services, an effort began to merge the blockchain....

The future of gambling? Hamster-powered marble races come to Ethereum

Mia the djungarian 'gamble hamster' will power high-stakes marble races with her trusty hamster wheel. After just over two years of development, on Sunday a new form of gambling will be released to the Ethereum world on mainnet: hamster-powered marble races. Powered by Mia, a female djungarian or “winter white dwarf” hamster and her trusty hamster wheel, the project, dubbed “Mia & the Marbles,” is an automated marble-racing and gambling platform from a group of independent developers. While the concept behind the project may seem… whimsical, in an interview with Cointelegraph the....

Fidelity Expects More Countries to Acquire Bitcoin Citing ‘Very High Stakes G...

Fidelity expects more sovereign nation states, or even a central bank, to acquire bitcoin this year. “There is very high stakes game theory at play here, whereby if bitcoin adoption increases, the countries that secure some bitcoin today will be better off competitively than their peers,” the firm explained. Fidelity’s Crypto Predictions Fidelity Digital Assets, a subsidiary of Fidelity Investments, published a report on crypto trends and their potential future impact earlier this month. Among the trends discussed in the report is the adoption of....

Hyperledger Adds 'Cello' Blockchain Deployment Tool to Its Arsenal

The Linux Foundation-led Hyperledger initiative has added a new blockchain deployment tool to its growing pool of projects. Dubbed ‘Cello’, the project is intended to establish a means for “creating, managing, and terminating blockchains”, Hyperledger said this week. Cello will ultimately come to serve as a support mechanism for other projects included under the Hyperledger umbrella, including Fabric, Iroha, and Sawtooth Lake, among others. Those behind the project say they hope it spurs partnerships with others working within the Hyperledger ecosystem. Baohua Yang, who first proposed....

Hyperledger Director Draws Dividing Line With 'Umbrella' Statement

Brian Behlendorf has made a living out of helping others play well together — and his work with blockchain group Hyperledger builds on this expertise. But before that can happen with this latest open-source project, the founder of the Apache Software Foundation set out to make sure that the more than 80 existing members of Hyperledger know what they've signed up for. In a blog post he published last week entitled "Meet Hyperledger: An 'Umbrella,' for Open Source Blockchain & Smart Contract Technologies," Behlendorf laid out in explicit terms Hyperledger's mission and the....
