Ethereum Software Client Geth Issues Hotfix To Tighten Security
Geth, the most renowned software client of Ethereum, has provided a hotfix to the threatening security challenges in its code. The news was posted on Tuesday at 07:08 UTC to GitHub. However, the details of the terms were not disclosed immediately. The release is titled Hades Gamma (V1.10.8); it was posted to Ethereum GitHub on Tuesday at about 07:08 UTC. According to one of the posts on the release page, it didn’t disclose the details of the vectors, including their fixes. This would have allowed the dependent downstream projects and node operators to update their software and nodes.....

Coinciding with the opening of the Ethereum Foundation’s Devcon2 conference in Shanghai this week, significant parts of the Ethereum network were crashing. In what seemed like an attack using an intentionally difficult-to-execute smart contract, the much used Ethereum implementation Geth stopped functioning altogether, while another implementation — Parity — was also having issues. Upon discovering the attack, Ethereum developers wrote a hotfix for Geth within a couple of hours that seemed to solve the problem, at least temporarily.* Interestingly, while the fix was happening, alternative....
Péter Szilágyi, a software engineer, contends that the widespread adoption of Geth, an Ethereum client he helped develop, is not why the dominant smart contract platform is “slow.” Szilágyi responded to a thread on social media platform X discussing Solana’s high throughput, stating, “Geth does not control all factors affecting processing speed.” Geth Is The Most […]
The Ethereum platform has released an updated version of Geth client to rectify the consensus error. The Ethereum platform has run into few issues due to a flaw in the consensus mechanism. The issues were said to be due to the failing Geth journal when it came to reverting account deletions after transactions responsible for empty account deletion encountered out-of-gas exception. The issue, also encountered by Parity in a slightly different setting has forced the Ethereum development community to release a new version of Geth. Upon identification of the issue, which was a result of the....
The Ethereum community is reeling after what appears to be another attack on the network. All nodes running the Geth client appear to be affected. Geth Nodes Running Out of Memory. Ethereum developer and co-founder Jeffrey Wilcke posted a Security Alert on the official Ethereum blog on 18 September. Geth nodes, he said, were “running out of memory and crashing on block 2283416“. He advised users to switch to an alternate client until the problem is fixed. Geth is the the command line interface for running a full Ethereum node implemented in Go. While Geth clients are not a majority on the....
“Stay away from doing [transactions] for a while till confirmed, unless you are sure you are submitting to latest Geth,” advised Andre Cronje. A major consensus bug has affected more than half the Ethereum network’s nodes, causing those running older versions of Geth to split from the main network.According to Ethereum software developer Marius van der Wijden, an attacker exploited a vulnerability affecting earlier versions of Geth, one of Ethereum's software clients. According to the developer, Geth clients and Ethereum nodes running software v1.10.7 or earlier are at risk of splitting....
