Decentral Announces 2015 Canadian Blockchain & Fintech Expo

“As early adopters of such a technology, we feel there needs to be a clear vision with definitive actions on how to integrate these technologies into the current system.

Decentral is excited to announce that it will be organizing the 2015 Decentral Canadian Blockchain & Fintech Expo to be held in Toronto in the second week of September 2015. A hackathon organized in conjunction with local Canadian university students is also planned.

The early speakers list so far includes Vitalik Buterin, Gavin Wood & Anthony Diiorio of Ethereum, David Johnston of DApps Fund, Matthew Roszak of Tally Capital, Brock Pierce of ChangeTip, Tether and the Bitcoin Foundation, David Bailey of BTC Media, Joel Dietz of Swarm, Paul Snow of Factum, Shawn Wilkinson of Storj, Jason King of Sean’s Outpost, Jamie Robinson of QuickBT, Jeff Coleman of Kryptokit, William Mougayar of Start-Up Management, Michael Terpin of Social Radius, and Gerald Cotten of QuadrigaCX. More speakers will be added in the upcoming months.

After the success of last year’s Expo in Toronto, organizer Anthony Diiorio has been asked repeatedly if there will be another event in 2015. “Given the amazing feedback we received from the previous event,” he says, “it was decided that we'd to go for it again this year. Toronto is a great location for events like this, especially since such a large percentage of the Canadian population is within a 5 hour drive of Toronto. It is also such a prominent financial and technology center that it just simply makes sense to hold an event here again.”

A growing list of partnerships for the conference includes QuadrigaCX, KryptoKit, decentral.tv, BTCMedia, Bitcoin Magazine, yBitcoin Magazine, Tally Capital, QuickBT, BitAccess, Social Radius, CameronHuff.com, Start-up Management, Bitprint.ca, & Saucal.

Diiorio and the Decentral team chose a September date for the Expo to allow for adequate preparation time and to avoid the summer holiday season. He hopes to attract attendants from around the world and thus to provide a particular showcase for Canadian innovation and involvement in the blockchain and decentralized technology space. At the same time, the Toronto Expo will also include a focus on exploring ways in which technologies like Bitcoin and next-generation blockchain technologies can benefit marginalized communities around the world and disrupt many other sectors such as law and finance.

Last year’s Expo, which Diiorio organized for the Bitcoin Alliance of Canada, included over 50 speakers from around the world and welcomed more than 700 registered attendees.

The event also included a two-day hackathon which will be repeated this year. It is organized in conjunction with students from across Canada, who are among the leaders of the young cohort of students looking to make an impact by implementing blockchain applications within the student population and educational system.

“Blockchain and decentralized technologies are fascinating,” says Stepan Vorobiev, head of the University of Toronto Decentralized Tech Association. “As early adopters of such a technology, we feel there needs to be a clear vision with definitive actions on how to integrate these technologies into the current system. We're excited to be working alongside Anthony and the Decentral team to connect the brightest, young technical minds to the most seasoned and established companies and individuals."
