Lamassu Announces Modular Two-Way Bitcoin ATM
Our modular design allows them the ability to choose a cash-to-Bitcoin machine, or the option of adding a stand that enables two-way transactions. Different operators have different market needs, so flexibility is key here.
Lamassu is taking orders for its modular system, which enables owners of existing Lamassu Bitcoin ATMs to add Bitcoin-for-cash capability via its new Santo Tirso bill dispensing pedestal. Previously, the manufacturer only produced machines with the ability to make cash-for-Bitcoin transactions. The bill dispenser stands, which sell for $5,500 each, are now available for preorder and will make their first appearance at the Bitcoin Foundation’s Bitcoin 2014 conference in Amsterdam May 15-17.
“It was important for us to give operators the choice of one-way or two-way transactions,” says Zach Harvey, CEO of Lamassu. “Our modular design allows them the ability to choose a cash-to-Bitcoin machine, or the option of adding a stand that enables two-way transactions. Different operators have different market needs, so flexibility is key here.”
The Santo Tirso, which functions as both a bill dispenser and sleek floor stand for the Lamassu Bitcoin Machine, can hold up to 1,000 banknotes of any currency. It’s compatible with all 235-plus Lamassu machines that have been sold around the world. This opens up automated and affordable remittance options, particularly for those living in third-world countries.
“We’re very happy with the way this turned out, in terms of price point, minimalism and versatility,” Harvey says.
“We definitely intend on expanding our modular options, both for hardware and software.”
For those who want a stand but don’t need two-way transactions, Lamassu also offers operators the option of adding on the Braga floor stand, which is priced at $1,800 and does not include a bill dispenser.
Even with the addition of the cash-dispensing floor stand, the Lamassu Bitcoin machines are the most affordable two-way Bitcoin ATMs on the market. They are all built in a small expert facility in Portugal and have the smallest footprint of any two-way Bitcoin ATM, allowing operators to put them in places where floor space is limited.
