First U.S. Bitcoin Vending Machine Launches in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Enchanted Bitcoins is operating what is believed to be the first Bitcoin vending machine available to the public in the United States.
The Bitcoin Machine, manufactured by Lamassu, Inc., is permanently installed at Imbibe, an upscale cigar bar and lounge in the Nob Hill neighborhood of Albuquerque adjacent to the University of New Mexico. The service is available now, and a launch party is scheduled at Imbibe the evening of February 21, 2014.
"This is very special for us. Enchanted Bitcoins are paving the way for mainstream Bitcoin accessibility in the Unites States," says Zach Harvey, CEO of Lamassu.
"They have put in a lot of time and effort on the compliance side, and we’re very excited to see them open for business."
Marco Santori, an attorney with Nesenoff & Miltenberg LLP, says,
"We are thrilled to be a part of the launch of America’s first Bitcoin sales kiosk. This is a significant step in the forward march of progress for digital currencies in the United States."
In recognition of its responsibilities as a money transmitter, as indicated in guidance last year from FinCEN, Enchanted Bitcoins has established a full AML program and has registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business.
"Congratulations to Enchanted Bitcoins on becoming the first Bitcoin sales kiosk in the United States. I'm proud to have helped Enchanted Bitcoins' leadership develop a world-class strategy to manage the company's end-to-end operational processes in a safe and compliant manner," says Juan Llanos, anti-money laundering and regulatory compliance expert.
The availability of this bitcoin machine will significantly increase the ease with which individuals in the Albuquerque area can acquire bitcoin for cash, almost instantly.
"Imbibe is excited to participate in this new innovative technology. We look forward as a business to being able to accept Bitcoin, the world’s newest currency," says Wesley Golden, Imbibe co-founder and partner.
"We invite you to come in and take a look."
