BitPay Names Chief Compliance Officer
BitPay, the world leader in business solutions for the Bitcoin digital currency, has named Tim Byun as its Chief Compliance Officer. Byun, formerly the Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing Officer of Visa Inc., began his new role for BitPay at the Digital Banking Summit conference June 2 talking about The Digital Future.
“As the bitcoin industry continues to grow, BitPay wants to ensure that our policies and procedures fall inline with various state, federal and international regulations. For this reason, we hired Tim to set up and maintain our compliance structure,” Executive Chairman Tony Gallippi said.
Byun previously served as Visa's head of Global Credit Settlement Risk, leading anti-money laundering programs to maintain Visa's compliance. Before joining Visa, he was an Examining Manager with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco's Division of Banking Supervision and Regulation for nine years. He earned his MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and his Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Southern California.
Byun will be speaking on BitPay’s behalf at Bitcoin in the Beltway, June 20 -22, a bitcoin conference taking place in Washington, DC. He is based out of the recently announced San Francisco office.
In addition to Byun, BitPay has selected Anjali Kamath as the new General Counsel/Compliance Manager. Prior to BitPay, Kamath served as Corporate Compliance manager at ClearPoint. She also worked at Lindner’s Capital Advisors. Inc. as its Chief Compliance/Legal Officer for five years. She earned her law degree from Samford University and her Bachelor of Arts from LaGrange College.
BitPay has grown to over 40 employees worldwide and has also hired Emily Vaughn as Events Marketing Manager, Wouter Vonk as European Marketing Manager in Amsterdam, Nick Cardin as UX/UI Developer, Andrew Mandel as Client Operations Engineer, Corey Glaze as Senior Sales Engineer, and Braydon Fuller as UX Engineer.
Additionally, BitPay has hired eight interns for the summer: Chris Ernst, Gabe Gattis, Osama Sakhi, Bennett Tullos, Shivani Negi, Pat Riley, Evan Lahurd, and Mallika Sen.
