Save the Children Begins Accepting Bitcoin Donations Through BitPay

Save the Children is now accepting bitcoin donations through BitPay, the world’s leading bitcoin payment processor. Save the Children is a top-rated charity founded in 1919 to provide aid for European children who were affected by World War I.

The organization will be accepting bitcoin donations directly through their personalized BitPay donation page just in time for the holiday season. With BitPay’s free payment processing, the charity will be able to keep 100 percent of all bitcoin donations.

Although bitcoin is a new digital currency, it is not new to Save the Children. Last winter, Save the Children participated in a campaign hosted by the BitGive Foundation, a charitable bitcoin organization, to raise bitcoin donations for Typhoon Haiyan Relief.

The success of the campaign, and their ongoing relationship with the BitGive Foundation, prompted Save the Children to accept bitcoin donations. They will also be listed on BitcoinBlackFriday.com and BitcoinGivingTuesday.org, sites dedicated to listing deals or fundraising events for bitcoin users. Bitcoin donations will benefit Save the Children’s Ebola Children's Relief Fund to help #StopEbola.

“Save the Children showcases the advantages of bitcoin for charities: no fees, no minimum donations, and the support of the highly enthusiastic bitcoin community,” said Elizabeth Ploshay, who heads up non-profit outreach for BitPay.

In 2013, Save the Children provided aid to over 143 million children in the United States and around the world. This year, Save the Children is on the ground providing critical help and health relief, working with health ministries in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to help fight the Ebola outbreak by building Ebola health centers, caring for orphans, training health workers and providing protective kits and essential medical equipment. Save the Children is one of the first large non-profit organizations to start accepting bitcoin donations.

“Accepting bitcoin donations seemed like a natural next step for us,” said Ettore Rossetti, Director of Digital Marketing & Social Media at Save the Children. “We have already seen the generosity of the bitcoin community, and working with BitPay allows us to keep 100% of the donations, helping us serve even more children.”
