Lamassu Bitcoin machine aims for 'cash to bitcoins'
Lamassu's Bitcoin Machine isn't exactly a Bitcoin ATM -- instead, it's designed to enable one-way exchanges only: cash to bitcoins. But, for now, that's good enough in a world where changing fiat currency into the digital stuff is still a complicated, circuitous process that's not easily available to everyone. "(T)he core intention is to simplify obtaining bitcoins," says Zach Harvey, one of the three people behind Lamassu Bitcoin Ventures, which plans to roll out the machines starting this summer. We've been calling the Lamassu bitcoin machine an ATM for some time, but we should properly correct ourselves and call it a bitcoin 'vending machine', because it does not exchange bitcoin-to-cash. Rather, you insert cash, and you get bitcoin sent to an address of your choosing. That said, The Verge has uploaded a great video from CES 2014 demonstrating the machine, along with a question-and-answer session with Lamassu CEO Zach Harvey. It's pretty interesting, so if you find yourself with a spare few minutes, check it out.

The kiosk is operated by a company by the name of Enchanted Bitcoins. "This is very special for us. Enchanted Bitcoins are paving the way for mainstream Bitcoin....
A new brand of bitcoin ATM from Italy is tested and ready for shipping worldwide, says manufacturer Bit-Wallet, which produced the machine in cooperation with Italy's first cryptocurrency consultancy agency, CoinCapital. The ATM's compact size, price and feature set look ready to challenge Lamassu's machines, which have proliferated in cafes and showrooms around the world since launching in October of last year. Like Lamassu, Bit-Wallet says its devices also have the option to be bi-directional, meaning users can buy bitcoins and also sell them for cash. This makes the devices more like....
Two machines for changing dollars to bitcoins were on the show floor at the Bitcoin 2013 show in San Jose, though only the machine from Lamassu Bitcoin Ventures was up and running when CoinDesk toured the expo. Lamassu's machine is a small, glossy white box about the size of a microwave oven, with a slot to accept bills, a screen and a camera that can read QR codes from a user's wallet app on a smartphone screen. Attendee Evan Rose fed two $20 bills into the machine and saw the bitcoins hit his digital wallet within seconds. "There goes my cab fare," he joked. "Convince your cab driver to....
Eric L. Stromberg was pushing his old Ford Escort faster than it was used to, as he sped from California to New Mexico with his 125-pound traveling companion sitting silently in the back. Stromberg had never spent a night in Albuquerque before, and he knew no one there. But Albuquerque was to about to become home for Stromberg and his passenger - a glossy white bitcoin ATM made by Lamassu. This single-car interstate race had been part of Stromberg's bid to launch the first bitcoin ATM in the United States. First past the line. A month later, on 18th February, Stromberg announced that his....
