Lamassu CEO Zach Harvey Talks About and Demos Bitcoin 'Vending Machine'
We've been calling the Lamassu bitcoin machine an ATM for some time, but we should properly correct ourselves and call it a bitcoin 'vending machine', because it does not exchange bitcoin-to-cash. Rather, you insert cash, and you get bitcoin sent to an address of your choosing. That said, The Verge has uploaded a great video from CES 2014 demonstrating the machine, along with a question-and-answer session with Lamassu CEO Zach Harvey. It's pretty interesting, so if you find yourself with a spare few minutes, check it out.

Lamassu's Bitcoin Machine isn't exactly a Bitcoin ATM -- instead, it's designed to enable one-way exchanges only: cash to bitcoins. "(T)he core intention is to simplify obtaining bitcoins," says Zach Harvey, one of the three people behind Lamassu Bitcoin Ventures, which plans to roll out the machines starting this summer. Lamassu's Bitcoin ATM has proven to be a critical piece of Porcfest infrastructure this year. The machine, which allows anyone to insert bills, scan their receiving address and immediately receive bitcoins at a 1% fee, has sold over 16 BTC in the first three days of the event, and its popularity is only growing as the number of participants ramps up. But the aim of the machine is much larger than just one annual libertarian event. Lamassu's founders Josh and Zach Harvey intend to make many more machines and sell them to merchants interested in operating one in many countries around the....
Lamassu. It's a well-recognized name in the bitcoin industry. Many would say the company has revolutionized the in-person acquisition of bitcoin via a streamlined thirty-second process, and the company is taking one step forward with the introduction of a modular two-bitcoin bitcoin ATM system. Dubbed the Santo Tirso floor stand, it comes as an optional compliment to the traditional Lamassu devices we're quite used to seeing. Built into the stand is a bill dispenser that will effectively allow current Lamassu devices in operation to exchange cash for bitcoin - making them much more than a....
