Apple Forces Fancy to Remove Bitcoin Payments From its App

Pay with Bitcoin on iOS? Not anymore. By now everyone knows that Apple isn't too fond of Bitcoin. The company has removed every single Bitcoin wallet application from the iOS App Store, with Blockchain being the last one. The reason for Apple's anti-Bitcoin stance isn't entirely clear. It's possible that Apple doesn't want to deal with the legal issues of a currency whose regulatory status is unclear and inconsistent in most countries. For instance, when Coinbase was removed from the App Store, Apple's reasoning was that apps must "comply with all legal requirements in any location where....

Apple Requests Removal of Bitcoin Payments From Fancy's iOS App

Back in late January, social sharing e-commercial platform Fancy.com included the option to pay for products in bitcoin. That capability carried over to the company's mobile application - but as of today, the pay-in-bitcoin feature in Fancy's iOS app is no longer available. In version 3.3.0 of the app, released March 5th, the change-log says: "Removed Bitcoin per Apple's request". Certainly interesting, but surprising? Not in the least. Cupertino-based Apple has started an all-out offensive against any applications that allow bitcoin payments (informational apps, on the other hand, are....

The Top 3 Videos from Reddit's Bitcoin vs Apple Video Contest

Apple should have embraced the misfits and the crazy ones. There is currently a video contest happening on Reddit, and the point of the contest is to remix Apple's old ad that talks about “misfits” being the ones who change the world in a Bitcoin vs Apple scenario. While Apple has always been a company known for “thinking different”, it seems that philosophy may have ended many years ago. In reality, Apple is a company creating closed-source applications and operating systems that give the user no control over their own devices. When it comes to Bitcoin, Apple has decided to remove all....

CoinJar to Pull Their iOS Wallet App This Week Due to Apple Policies

Australian bitcoin exchange CoinJar has for a while had their wallet application up-for-grabs on Apple's iOS App Store. Interestingly so, because most of its competitors' apps with similar (if not the same) functionality had already been removed for violating Apple's money-transmitting policy. But not CoinJar, their resilient little app became the lone soldier on a battleground. But no longer, it appears. CoinJar today announced their application will be pulled from the iOS App Store by the end of this week. Apple reportedly gave CoinJar an ultimatum: remove the receive and transmitting....
