MegaBigPower to buy ASICs from failing Bitcoin Miners

The US-based Bitcoin mining giant MegaBigPower has announced on its official website (www.megabigpower.com) that it will launch a buyback program where unprofitable Bitcoin miners can sell their hardware. The company plans to boost its mining power by as much as 10 megawatts by buying pre-owned ASICs. Under the buyback program, the manufacturer of cutting edge mining hardware will be particularly interested in models sold by mining manufacturers Spondoolies-Tech and Bitmain. The buyback was a simple alternative for the miners who were struggling to make profits in the extremely competitive....

MegaBigPower Opens Buyback for Unprofitable Bitcoin Miners

MegaBigPower has announced that it will begin purchasing preowned bitcoin mining ASICs as part of a plan to acquire as much as 10 megawatts worth of hardware. Under the buyback program, the US-based bitcoin mining company will purchase certain types of hardware, with an emphasis on models sold by mining manufacturers Spondoolies-Tech and Bitmain. Founder Dave Carlson framed the program as a simpler alternative for miners looking to sell their equipment online, telling CoinDesk: "Due to our extremely low power cost, we can still return funds to miners who may have gotten in just before the....

Litecoin and ASICS: Effect on Market

We all know that Scrypt ASICS are now available for purchase, and miners have been hashing away at Scrypt coins, leaving GPU miners to scramble to under algorithms, most popular being Scrypt-n and x-11. Scrypt ASICS may have also had a negative effect on prices, for Darkcoin and Vertcoin. Darkcoin is the most popular X11 coin, and Vertcoin is the most popular Scrypt-n coin, so it’s logical to assume that is where most GPU miners flocked to. For example, take a look at what happened to Darkcoin. At a current market weighted average of 0.0098 BTC, this is the lowest it has been in 2 months,....

Review of the Baikal 150 mh/s X11 DASH ASIC Miner

Until recently ASICs for mining have been mostly only Bitcoin/SHA-256 and Scrypt ASICs other than a few test runs of other algorithms. The development and production of ASICs is not cheap and not as simple on many of the algorithms due to memory and other requirements. One of the first new ASICs to hit the market is the Baikal X11 miner which can mine DASH as well as other coins using this algorithm. iBeLink and Pinidea also have X11 ASICs out as well which we will be reviewing in the near future. The Baikal X11 miner produces on average 150 mh/s on 39 to 42 watts of power. Each miner is....

Litecoin Will Not Hard Fork to Fend Off ASICs!

There has been a lot of rumors and speculation if coin developers of scrypt coins should hard fork their coins to try and block the influx of ASIC's and protect GPU mining. The development team for Litecoin has released a statement on theLitecoinTalk forum. While the Pro and Con lists can be long and convoluted, there are two main Pro's and Con's that I think of when I look at this issue. Litecoin. The Pro's of forking a coin would be GPU miners would not find their investments in their mining gear obsolete like they did when the SHA-256 ASICs hit the Bitcoin world. GPU rigs are costly,....
