Global CCTV Botnet Successfully Executed DDoS Attack
In this day of mass surveillance and privacy awareness, CCTV cameras are often forgotten about. But as it turns out, these monitoring devices can serve an even nefarious purpose, albeit unwillingly. Security researchers uncovered a botnet operating on 25,000 CCTV cameras. This attack targeted a small jewelry store website, which was unavailable for several days. Although most people are well aware of how CCTV cameras are small computers, one would never think of them as a tool for hackers. Granted, camera surveillance hacking occurs in tv shows and movies for bank heists and whatnot. But....

BTC-e was down briefly on Sunday, following a powerful distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack against its servers. DDoS attacks against bitcoin exchanges have gained notoriety since the 'massive and concerted' attack which targeted multiple organisations earlier this year. However, in the current climate of uncertainty even a harmless attack can be misinterpreted, with speculation spreading like wildfire on social media. Luckily BTC-e was quick to confirm the attack and dismiss fears - it was just another DDoS attack, now all too common in the world of bitcoin. DDoS attack on our....
The internet infrastructure and risk-mitigating company, Cloudflare Inc., reportedly prevented the largest distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack earlier this month, calling it the most volumetric attack the company has recorded to date. The attack in question was aimed at a crypto platform. The number of requests per second (rps) of the current DDoS attack […]
To put this potential into perspective, Mirai is capable of pulling in several hundreds of thousands of bots from IoT devices. Security researchers have come across the source code for the Internet of Things botnet called Mirai. This botnet has been used to launch major DDoS attacks against various websites. Such a powerful tool could be used to shut down nearly any public website in existence today. Now that the source code has been leaked, it becomes a lot easier to render the botnet useless. Connecting millions of devices to the Internet sounds great on paper, but it creates a big....
Bitcoin exchange BTE-C has reported via its official Twitter account that it is, at this time, experiencing a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack that may or may not be affecting all services. The uncertainty comes from the lack of explanation from BTC-E. The tweet, which only reads "DDos #btce" (pictured above), seemingly speaks for itself, however. Bitcoin exchanges are often targets of DDOS attacks, but many have learned to deal with these situations as a result of being victims multiple times (see Mt. Gox). More updates as they become available.
