Liberty Teller and Partners Continue to Build Bitcoin Ecosystem in Cambridge/Boston
Liberty Teller, the company that launched the first bitcoin ATM in the USA, unveiled its latest bitcoin ATM in the heart of Kendall Square inside the MIT COOP retail store. The Liberty Teller machine allows customers to purchase bitcoin with cash in a matter of seconds.
Chris Yim, Co-Founder of Liberty Teller, explains,
“We are pleased to bring our bitcoin ATM to Kendall Square’s vibrant tech and startup community which is home to Google, Facebook, Twitter, MIT, and the Cambridge Innovation Center among others. Along with the MIT Bitcoin Project ($500K giveaway), the public launch of Circle, and an increasing number of local merchants accepting bitcoin, Cambridge/Boston is showing the world that it is a tour de force when it comes to fintech innovation.”
Jerry Murphy, President of the Harvard/MIT COOP, believes the new bitcoin ATM location makes a lot of sense given the neighborhood,
“The MIT COOP is very excited to be partnering with Liberty Teller in offering a bitcoin exchange kiosk to the Kendall Square community. It’s appropriate that one of the few kiosks in the country is located here.”
Alongside Liberty Teller’s expansion of its ATM footprint, the company has been helping onboard merchants to accept bitcoin.
“We continue to focus on building the local ecosystem.”
Co-Founder Kyle Powers details,
“Since we started a few months ago, we’ve welcomed a lot of new bitcoiners and bitcoin-accepting merchants to the community. There are now local merchants directly accepting bitcoin for payment for everything from dumplings to cocktails to tax advice. We are still in the very early days, but momentum is strong.”
The Kendall Square Liberty Teller kiosk will be located inside the MIT COOP at 3 Cambridge Center, Cambridge, MA 02139.
