BitPay Sponsors the LAUNCH Hackathon
BitPay Inc, the world leader in business solutions for virtual currencies, announces that the company is a premier sponsor for the LAUNCH Hackathon2014 in San Francisco. The LAUNCH Hackathon is a global effort held in conjunction with The Startup Weekend and Up Global, with over $2 million in investment and other prizes to be awarded.
Over 1,000 developers will be competing in the 48-hour competition beginning Friday, February 21 in the Concourse of the San Francisco Design Center. To encourage more development of open-source tools that benefit everybody in the bitcoin space, BitPay is offering developers of LAUNCH an additional financial incentive for projects that utilize BitPay’s Bitcoin Payment Gateway API or the open source library Bitcore.
BitPay recently announced Bitcore as an open source Bitcoin project, making it easier than ever for developers to interact with the real Bitcoin network. Bitcore is a complete, native interface to the Bitcoin network, and provides the core functionality needed to develop new applications for bitcoin. Bitcore lowers the barrier to entry for developers and new bitcoin users and continues to foster the great community around Bitcoin.
“BitPay developed and released Bitcore to encourage new projects in the space, and we are upping the ante for developers in the bitcoin space,” said Eric Martindale, Developer Evangelist with BitPay.
“Our goal is to create an opportunity for developers to implement powerful financial integrations with their bitcoin applications.”
Judges of the competition include Om Malik of GigaOm, Zal Bilimoria of Andreessen Horowitz, and Jeff Sandquist of Twitter.
Last year’s winners include Wizzywig.io and Ramen.is.
