Inaugural Virtual Currency Today Summit Tackles Issues Surrounding Bitcoin Payments

The Virtual Currency Today Summit produced by Networld Media Group, publishers of Virtual Currency Today, ATM Marketplace and Mobile Payments Today, held its first annual show April 29 at the Back Bay Hilton in Boston.

Filling an informational need to keep abreast of a rapidly developing technology, the Virtual Currency Today Summit addressed a number of issues in the industry including consumer adoption, merchant acceptance, regulatory issues, and what the future holds for bitcoin and other virtual currencies.

GoCoin Co-Founder and CEO Steve Beauregard keynoted the event.

“We need to solve for the bitcoin user experience for consumers,” Beauregard said during his keynote.

“Right now, there’s too much friction for payment and confusion about wallets.”

Additional speakers at the Virtual Currency Today Summit included Bruce Fenton, Executive Director of the Bitcoin Foundation, Judd Bagley, Director of Communication for Overstock.com, Naveed Sherwani President & CEO of PeerNova, David J. Cotney, Commissioner of Banks for the Massachusetts Division of Banks, and Sarah Martin, Vice President of the Digital Currency Council.

These speakers, and others, urged the audience to take a deeper dive into areas such as consumer awareness and how bitcoin processors can help merchants better market themselves after they initially announce their intentions to accept bitcoin.

Multiple speakers also urged the audience to work with regulators to shape a fair regulatory environment that doesn’t stifle innovation in the bitcoin industry.

Ziftr, which has created a cryptocurrency/credit card payment platform and a digital coin to help get everyday consumers to begin using cryptocurrency, sponsored the Virtual Currency Today Summit.

Future summits from Networld Media Group include Interactive Customer Experience Summit (June 28-30, Chicago), the CONNECT Mobile Innovation Summit (August 17-19, Chicago), and the ATM & Mobile Innovation Summit (September 9-11, Washington, D.C.).
